Personality Planning
Jun. 5th, 2011 02:20 pmMegurine Luka | Happy Synthesizer
A cheerful, carefree and slightly airheaded teenage singer, who thinks the world of her childhood friend / partner Gumi in what's very obviously a lesbian crush she hasn't realised yet. The two grew up alongside each other, learned to sing together, signed on with Crypton together and are practically attached at the hip, to the point Luka can barely live without her; literally, finding her Gumi becomes her immediate first priority and (inevitably doomed) mission once she arrives in the VDR.
Immature and with a very overly dramatic persona, Luka puts her energy into everything, probably at the cost of thinking things through. Luka thinks big, and hence tends to stumble over the smaller things, but never lets them stand in her way of reaching Gumi. Until Panda shows up and all her dreams die.
Gumi is everything to Luka; singing is just what they do together. Luka very clearly is in love with her, but it's something that's been there for such a long time she's never really noticed or thought about it. If confronted on it, Luka will probably get confused and be unsure how to answer. Not Tsun, just a wee bit stupid and oblivious to herself.
When I say she thinks the world of Gumi, I'm really not kidding. She thinks she's the purest, bestest, most wonderful person in the world. Between Matryoshka and Panda Gumi, we'll see how long this lasts...
Happy Synthesizer is their big hit that propelled them to fame; Luka holds it as one of her most precious memories. It's like her mental anthem.
The other Vocaloids are her rivals in the singing scene, though with the same record label, resulting in hilarity and a misplaced sense of superiority on Luka's part (as, obviously, nothing can compare to Gumi). She's never actually met them in person, just gone 'DAAAAMN YOOOUU' at the TV whenever they pass her on the charts.
Hence... pre-VDR conceptions:
Gumi: ...does this need explaining?
Miku: Upstart!
Meiko: Respectable elder sempai. But old.
Kaito: Eh who cares.
Rin and Len: Weirdos.
Gackupo: BIGGEST WEIRDO OF THEM ALL.
Everyone else: ...Who are you again?
UPDATES:
Now that she's out and I've had a chance to play with her voice...
Luka is a bit of a ditz prone to saying her mind without thinking too hard. Whilst she trusts Gumi absolutely, she is/was probably a little too clingy; hopefully being separated in the DR will do some good for her. The pronoun confusion when talking to MechPilot!Luka is mostly down to her not being completely sure how to talk to... herself; it's likely to crop up whenever she's talking about different versions of the same person.
Mostly though she's a teenager, eager and desperate to make something of herselfand impress Gumi. Probably now set on the mission of being 'cool', which I suspect meeting the other Lukas will only intensify.
